“Rob and the Hoodies”

“Rob and the Hoodies” – A Vienna’s English Theatre school tours performance

On January 22nd, 2025, all our 2nd, 3rd, and 4th form students had the chance to watch an exciting play called "Rob and the Hoodies". This modern take on the legend of Robin Hood dives into the life of Rob Loxby, a student at a Nottingham comprehensive school. Rob isn’t only trying to come to terms with the typical every-day drama and figuring out his place in the world—he’s also facing a gang of bullies known as “The Hoodies.”

With a love for acting, Rob decides to write and direct his own play, inviting other students to audition. Three classmates show up and start rehearsing with Rob, but things get interesting when Marianne, one of the actors, calls out how women are portrayed in the story. Rob, too, begins to question if his version of Robin Hood truly represents a hero—after all, is stealing ever the right thing to do?

As tensions with The Hoodies reach a boiling point, Rob and his theatre friends join forces, proving that cooperation, loyalty, and standing up for each other can get you through even the toughest challenges.

The play explores universal themes such as friendship, bullying, respect and resilience, making it a story that probably resonates with a lot of people.

Here’s what some students had to say about the play:

“This was the best play I’ve ever seen. The actors and actresses did I great job because they made us laugh. We all had a great time at the theatre.” ( Josef 2A)

“I really loved this play because it was entertaining and full of silly jokes. The actor’s facial expressions were really on point. It was cool to see 7 lucky viewers walk on stage and become the Merry Men. I hope to see more exciting performances like this one.” (Blerona 2A)

“I could understand everything and the costumes were really cool. My friend Issmail was invited to join the Merry Men on stage and show off some dance move.” (Suliman 2A)

“Personally, I would recommend watching the play because you can learn how important it is to have loyal friends.” (Hastyar 2A)

“I really enjoyed the actors’ confidence and their impressions of the different characters. The slow-motion performances were also amazing to watch.” (Halima 2A)

“The play was brilliant because the actors played multiple characters. In one of the scenes, they picked me to go on stage and perform with the Merry Men.” (Ahmed 2A)

“My favourite actress was the girl who played Marianne Maiden. She was really funny, kind and pretty. We could also take pictures with the actors after their performance.”  (Uchenna, 2A)
